The Great Terroirs of Languedoc
Long regarded as a region of volume production, Languedoc has become one of the most dynamic wine regions in France. Driven by a new generation of talented winemakers and remarkable terroirs, the finest Languedoc wines now rival some of the country's most prestigious references.

From Pic Saint-Loup to Terrasses du Larzac, through Faugères, Saint-Chinian and Montpeyroux, Languedoc offers exceptional diversity and a level of value that remains difficult to match.
The great wines of Languedoc are often produced from old vines, diverse soils and highly demanding winemakers. The region's growing recognition has allowed many estates to reveal the outstanding potential of terroirs that remained overlooked for many years.
The Grape Varieties of Languedoc
The finest red wines of Languedoc are often based on Mediterranean grape varieties such as Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. White wines may include Marsanne, Roussanne, Maccabeu, Grenache Blanc, Viognier or Clairette.
Languedoc also owes much of its character to the freedom of its winemakers, who are able to produce outstanding wines both within and beyond the official appellations, with quality often depending more on the talent of the domaine than on the name printed on the label.
Pic Saint-Loup and Terrasses du Larzac
Pic Saint-Loup, located north-east of Montpellier, benefits from limestone soils, Mediterranean influence moderated by the nearby Cévennes and significant day-night temperature differences. These conditions produce wines with depth, freshness and elegance. Estates such as Clos Marie, Ermitage du Pic Saint-Loup and Mas de l'Oncle have contributed to the growing reputation of this appellation.
Further west, Terrasses du Larzac benefits from altitude and cool nights, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness. The soils are highly varied, including limestone clay, ruffes, pebbles and other geological formations. Domaine de Montcalmès perfectly illustrates the quality now achieved by this appellation.
Faugères and Saint-Chinian
North of Béziers, Faugères is defined by its schist soils, which store heat during the day and release it at night. We have notably selected Jean-Michel Alquier, one of the leading names of the appellation.
Nearby, Saint-Chinian combines schist soils in the north with limestone terroirs in the south. This diversity allows the production of both supple, fruit-driven wines and more structured, age-worthy cuvées.
The Leading Domaines of Languedoc
Other distinctive terroirs have benefited from the talent of outstanding winemakers, sometimes outside the most famous appellations. Our selection brings together some of the most sought-after producers in Languedoc, including Peyre Rose, Clos Marie, Grange des Pères, Terrasse d'Élise, Cal Demoura, Aupilhac, Roc d'Anglade, Mas Daumas Gassac, Puech Noble and Montcalmès.
