Bandol, Palette and the Great Terroirs of Provence
Our selection highlights the renowned terroirs of Bandol, Palette and the Alpilles, alongside a number of remarkable wines from the Côtes de Provence. These appellations produce distinctive red, white and rosé wines that rank among the most interesting in southern France.

The Vineyards of Provence
The Provence wine region is one of the oldest in France. Although best known worldwide for its rosé wines, Provence also produces a wide range of distinctive red and white wines shaped by its Mediterranean climate and exceptional terroirs.
Perched on hillsides, planted on traditional stone terraces known as restanques, and stretching from rocky inland landscapes to the Mediterranean coastline, the vineyards of Provence offer remarkable diversity. Limestone, sandstone and schist soils contribute finesse, freshness and complexity to the wines.
The region enjoys nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year. Hot, dry summers are tempered by the Mediterranean Sea, while the famous Mistral wind helps keep vineyards healthy by reducing humidity and disease pressure.
The diversity of landscapes and climates is reflected in a wide range of grape varieties. More than a dozen are regularly used throughout Provence, some found across the entire region and others more closely associated with specific appellations.
The Main Grape Varieties of Provence
Red and Rosé Grapes
Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon are the principal grape varieties used in the red and rosé wines of Provence.
White Grapes
Rolle (Vermentino), Ugni Blanc, Clairette, Sémillon and Bourboulenc are among the most important grape varieties used for Provence white wines.
The Côtes de Provence appellation received AOC status in 1977.
