Domaine Richaud Cairanne "L'Ebrescade" red 2021 MAGNUM

La Revue du Vin de France (SPECIAL ISSUE - MAY 2024) : 94-95/100. "The vines planted on the mountain of Cairanne give this wine aromas of scrubland, blood, and pine resin. A cuvée dominated by Mourvèdre aged in a used foudre. Voluminous, with a silky mouthfeel, it is supported by solid tannins but enveloped by generous fruit."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski, May 2024) : 90-92/100. Still in tank when I visited but fully assembled and being prepped for bottling the following week, the 2021 Cairanne l'Ebrescade is a rather different blend, consisting of 50% Mourvèdre, 30% Syrah, and just 20% Grenache. It lacks the richness of the 2020 but still exhibits charming black cherries and black raspberries on the nose, a crisper, fresher personality, and remarkable length for the vintage. DRINK DATE 2024-2030.

Grapes :  60% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah, and 15% Grenache.

Terroir : "L'Ebrescade" is a cuvée from a parcel selection. The grapes come from the lieu-dit "L'Ebrescade", Ridel, and Combe d'Henry located on the heights of the Ventabren hill in Cairanne.

Vines and yield : The average age of the vines is 50 years for the Syrahs and 30 years for the Grenaches and Mourvèdres. The vines are located on very high slopes between Cairanne and Rasteau.
The area of L'Ebrescade, which peaks at 327 meters above sea level, is influenced by sedimentary deposits.
Very low yields are practiced on this terroir, between 15 and 20 hectoliters per hectare.

Aging : Aging in demi-muids and foudre for 24 months for the entire blend.
Stored at a stable temperature in an underground cellar until marketing.

Tasting : Intense red color, bright with ruby reflections.
On the nose and palate, the aromatic profile reveals complexity, with notes of spices, ripe fruits, leather, and flowers.
The finish is long, highlighted by silky and fine tannins.
Our cuvée l'Ebrescade 2019 offers a beautiful concentration reflecting the vintage and its very particular terroir.
Aging potential of 10 years.
