Louis Roederer, one of the last family-owned Champagne houses

champagne-louis-roederer-cristalThe Louis Roederer house produces high-quality champagnes from three grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. Cristal is the emblematic cuvée that has made the estate famous.

Founded in Reims in 1776, Louis Roederer has been around for over two centuries. Louis Roederer inherited the champagne house in 1833. A visionary and entrepreneur, he created his own style, going against the norm of the time. Instead of buying grapes, he chose to expand his vineyards and acquire the best plots.
Louis Roederer II continued this vision, even managing to have his champagnes served at the table of Tsar Alexander II. In fact, he created the famous "Cristal" cuvée for the tsar.

Today, the house is still family-owned (a rarity!) under the direction of Frédéric Rouzeau, the 7th generation. Together with cellar master Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon, he maintains the unique style that has brought the house success.

The vineyard covers 240 hectares in the premier and grands crus of the Marne, and includes 410 plots. Grapes are hand-harvested, and vinification is plot-specific. Engaged in organic certification since 2018, the vineyard is managed according to biodynamic principles.

Thanks to the global success of Cristal, the house has achieved international renown. These are pure, refined champagnes that age beautifully.

Why buy Roederer champagnes?

Because we love them and believe these wines deserve a place in your cellar! As some clients have told us, "we’re not objective, since we tasted and chose them to sell: we’re biased." That’s why we prefer to "defend" our selection with feedback from the winemaker and major guides, who are more objective than we are:

Guide RVF des meilleurs vins de France 2025: 3/4, One of the most iconic Champagne houses, this family-owned establishment relies on a vineyard of 420 plots, mostly Pinot Noir and 70% grand cru. The shift to biodynamics and thorough soil management confirm that viticulture is a priority here. Only an exceptional vineyard like this can explain the unique level of harmony and concentration in such large volumes.

Guide Bettane + Desseauve 2022: 5/5 (exceptional). Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon, the distinguished cellar master, continues to impress with the wines he produces and the profound connection to the land they embody. His relentless pursuit of excellence in the vineyard, cellar, and aging process reflects his ambition to make these wines magnetic and authentic. Cristal shines brighter each year—a model and inspiration.
