Domaine Grosbot-Barbara – Denis Barbara - Saint-Pourçain
Located in the north of Auvergne, in the Allier region, the Grosbot-Barbara estate spans 8 small (but magical) hectares in the heart of the Saint-Pourçain AOP, one of the oldest vineyards in France.
The winemaker, Denis Barbara, completed his viticulture and oenology studies in Burgundy in 1996. He immediately settled in Saint-Pourçain and partnered with Elie Grosbot, whose estate had been established since 1910.
In 2001, Denis Barbara invested in new infrastructure: a new cellar, new vineyards, and over the years, experience that has allowed him to improve his quality approach.
Initially, each plot was worked using sustainable agriculture, with the goal of converting the entire estate to organic farming. In 2020, the winemaker fulfilled a dream by creating terraced vineyards, where they had previously existed a century ago, on steep (and perfectly south-facing) lands in Bransat. Plantings of Pinot Noir took place on 2 hectares, and all new plots are managed organically. The first harvests from these terraces could take place in 2024.
Almost all of the estate’s labels (about ten different cuvées) are created using works by the artist-painter Marie-Paule Benoit-Basset, whose work the winemaker greatly admires.
