Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (David Schildknecht, Août 2011): The Clos Marie 2009 Coteaux du Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup Simon ? tasted assembled in tank for June bottling ? delivers a sweet melange of lightly-cooked red and black raspberries that draws saliva and derives invigoration from strong salinity and a crunch of berry seeds. Violet, iris, and arbor vitae waft from the glass and across the richly-fruited palate, while iron-rich, complexly bitter notes of chard, rosemary, and fruit pit add to a sense of dark depth and invigoration to a long, vibrant finish. This unusually energetic 2009 ought to be worth following for at least half a dozen years. There can?t often have been a more impressive Simon cuvee than this, I?m thinking ? even with the potential of 2010 fresh in my mind. (The individual lots of 2010, tasted at the same time ? mid April ? were predictably expressive and fine.)
